As a new model it is essential that you are able to provide your basic information on the spot. You never know when you may run into someone who can get you a job. For professionals a business card is how they get their name out there and make people remember them, but in the modeling industry a comp card is used.
The full name is composite, but it is most often simply called a comp card. Its like your portfolio condensed in an easy to carry card. It has a collection of your pictures and you basic stats printed on it.
Your comps may be used by your modeling agency. Many agencies set the comps out in their lobby for potential clients to easily scan the models they have.
You can also send out your comp cards to photographers and potential jobs to promote yourself. If you have a new look or have had changes in your stats or gained experience then you can send your new comp card out as an update to past people you have worked with.
However it is used your comps is a great way to get your face out there and let people know that you are available and ready for work. They are often put on file or cataloged so that when someone needs a model they refer to the cards and find what they need. You can secure many jobs by just sending yours out to clients.
