Model Rules For Success

While there really is not set of rules for modeling, there are some general guidelines that you should always keep in mind. These guidelines cover some important things about your attitude, how to interact with others on the job and just general advice that will make your modeling career better and more successful.

Your Main Goal
Before we talk about the rules or guidelines, it is important to make sure that you always keep your main goal in mind. Your main goal is to get the job. In order to do that you have to sell yourself. As you will see many of the following model rules are simply ways to help you sell yourself. All the rules are aimed at helping you reach that ultimate goal of getting the job.

Model Rules
Rule #1: Confidence. The best feature of any model is confidence. When you lack confidence you are only showing that you don't believe in yourself. If you don't believe you can do something or are worthy of doing something then why would anyone else believe it? A confident model sells herself without saying a word and makes people instantly believe in her abilities.

Rule #2: Learn how to be comfortable in anything. As a model in most cases you are selling a product, often clothing. You must be able to wear anything you are given with confidence and pose. Always look comfortable and at ease even if you feel uncomfortable and uneasy in what you are wearing.

Rule #3: Leave your problems at the door. This is true in any job - work should not mix with your personal problems. You have to learn to leave any issues you have that day at home and not take them into the photo shoot with you. Everything shows in a photo and you don't want your problems to come across and keep you from getting the job.

Rule #4: Be on time! Late arrivals means missing out. Most designers, photographers and others will not be tolerant of you wasting their time by being late.

Rule #5: Don't trash talk. Everyone knows everyone in this industry and if you say something bad about a product or another person the word will get around and you will find a lot of trouble securing future jobs and building relationships.

Rule #6: Learn from rejection. There is no use getting upset about rejection because there will be a lot of it. Take every rejection as a learning experience. Try to take something away from a rejection and make it a positive experience.

Success in modeling is not easy. Many people try for years with no success. The rules above are simple guidelines that give you some basic things you must do or not do in order to give yourself the best chance at success. This is not an extensive list, but it works when you are first starting out to help prevent you from making big mistakes that could end your career before it is started.
