Every year, Conker players from around the globe converge in a village named Ashton in Northamptonshire to play Conkers and gun for the world title. This is The World Conker Championships, and this has been going on since 1965.Conker is a children's game usually played by children in Great Britain. The seed of a horse chestnut tree, also called the same and is used in this game. To be able to play the game, a hole must be drilled on a big conker or horse chestnut seed. A thread will then be tied on the conker, and then you're ready to go. The object is to break the other guy's conker. You and your opponent will take turns hitting each other's conker. I had a female collegiate athlete tell me the other day that she was not allowed in her high school weight room to strength train because the football team raised most of the money for it and they had it occupied all the time. She also said her coaches did not really stress strength training much. This devaluing of strength training along with no access to a weight room just put that girl at a major disadvantage to safe play and effective performance. This is a typical example and unfortunately an all too familiar story that I hear from many girls that I have trained or coached both past and present.
